About Us

As Ahmedabad expanded across the Sabarmati River, many Sikh families began settling in the city's developing neighbourhoods. With the growing Sangat came the need for a larger Guru Ghar — a place where the community could come together for Gurbani, Kirtan, Seva, learning and fellowship. With this vision, members and community leaders of Ahmedabad's Sikh Sangat came together to establish a Gurudwara that could serve both the spiritual and community needs of generations to come. With the support of the Government of Gujarat and the collective efforts of the Sangat, this vision began taking shape on a prominent site along the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway. In 1994, the foundation-laying ceremony was held with the participation of the Sangat, marking the beginning of Gurudwara Gobind Dham, named in reverence of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

From its beginning, Gurudwara Gobind Dham has grown through the collective participation of the Sangat. The spirit is expressed simply as: "Of the Sangat, For the Sangat, By the Sangat." The Guru Ghar is guided by the values of Naam, Seva and Kirat — remembering and connecting with Waheguru, serving selflessly, and living through honest and dignified work.

Gurbani remains at the heart of Guru Ghar. Through daily Nitnem, Sukhmani Sahib, Asa Di Vaar, Hukamnama, Gurbani Kirtan, Katha and other programmes, the Sangat is provided opportunities to listen to, reflect upon and connect with Gurbani. Over the years, renowned Ragi Singhs, Kirtankars and Kathakars have visited Gurudwara Gobind Dham and shared Gurbani and Gurmat with the Sangat. Akhand Paath Sahib and other Gurbani programmes are held at Guru Ghar, while occasions such as Prabhat Pheris and Nagar Kirtan have also helped carry the message of Gurbani beyond the Gurudwara premises and into the wider community. People from all faiths, backgrounds, castes and communities are welcome to enter Guru Ghar, sit together with the Sangat and experience the universal message of Gurbani.

Seva is woven into the everyday life of Gurudwara Gobind Dham. At Guru Ka Langar, everyone is welcomed and served equally, reflecting the Sikh principles of sharing, equality and selfless service. At the Jora Ghar, members of the Sangat perform Seva by respectfully caring for the footwear of those entering Guru Ghar. Other Sewadars contribute through cleanliness, Langar preparation and service, water Seva, maintenance, Digital & Live Seva and numerous responsibilities that often take place quietly behind the scenes. Every Seva, whether visible or unseen, is valued equally when performed with Nimrata (humility) and Nishkam Bhavna (selflessness). The Gurudwara has also extended the spirit of Seva into community welfare. Over the years, initiatives have included healthcare support and assistance for families requiring help with education, medical needs and other difficult circumstances, including charitable efforts associated with the Bhai Kanhaiya Ji Seva Mission.

Gurudwara Gobind Dham has always recognised that strengthening the community also means investing in its next generation. Over the years, programmes and camps have provided children and young people opportunities to learn Punjabi, Sikh history, Gurbani Kirtan, musical instruments, Dastaar tying and other skills. Competitions, educational activities and community programmes have further encouraged children and youth to learn, participate and remain connected with Guru Ghar. The purpose is not simply to preserve traditions, but to help the next generation understand them, practise them and carry them forward with confidence.

Equality and inclusion are deeply rooted in the Sikh way of life. The formation of the Khalsa Panth and the Panj Pyare stands as a powerful reminder that differences of region, occupation and social background do not determine a person's spiritual worth. Gurudwara Gobind Dham strives to carry this spirit forward by welcoming people from different generations, professions, backgrounds and walks of life to participate in Sangat and Seva. Here, Sangat brings us together, Pangat reminds us of equality, and Seva gives everyone an opportunity to contribute.

From the vision that took shape in 1994 to the Guru Ghar that serves the Sangat today, Gurudwara Gobind Dham continues to grow through the faith, dedication and collective Seva of countless individuals and families. Its purpose remains simple: To keep Guru Ghar open and welcoming to all, to strengthen the Sangat's connection with Gurbani and Gurmat, to serve those in need, and to create opportunities for future generations to learn, participate and serve. The journey belongs to the Sangat — and continues through the Sangat.
